TEACHING MOMENTS – “Happily Ever After?” Part 2 – The Gift of Sonship
In our last blog, we discussed how many of us grew up thinking and believing that marriage was created by our Father to make us happy, complete, and fulfilled. We discovered that marriage was never designed to complete us or fulfill the most intimate needs of our hearts… Jesus was. We also realized the strategies of the flesh only cause death, frustration, anger, rejection, and distrust in our relationships when our spouse doesn’t meet our expectations. To ‘Live Happily Ever After’ in marriage, we learned, we must turn our hearts to our Lord Jesus Christ to allow Him to share His unconditional love and life through us to share with each other. Marriage was created for some amazing purposes by our Father. But, first and far most it was about them… The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, then us. We do get to enjoy the Gift of Marriage as we will discuss in future blogs. Today, I want to take one step back from marriage and take a look at why our Father created Adam and Eve. Below scriptures are taken from the Amplified Bible which will shed a little light on the why?
MANY SONS FOR LOVE AND FELLOWSHIP
Genesis 1:26 -28
26God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth.
27So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God, He created him; male and female He created them.
28And God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.”
THE GIFT OF SONSHIP
We were both created in our Father’s image (MALE and FEMALE) to procreate and fill the earth with children in the likeness of God as we come into full maturity IN Christ. We were created to be Mature Sons for our Father, Brides for our Lord Jesus Christ, and The Temple and Prized Possession for the Holy Spirit to live their lives fully in and through us.
“Walking after the flesh keeps us children… Walking after the Spirit matures us as Sons.”
Romans 8:14-15
14For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!
Romans 8:19
For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship].
Romans 8:29
For those whom He foreknew [of whom He was aware and loved beforehand], He also destined from the beginning [foreordaining them] to be molded into the image of His Son [and share inwardly His likeness], that He might become the firstborn among many brethren.
Galatians 4:5
To purchase the freedom of (to ransom, to redeem, to atone for) those who were subject to the Law, that we might be adopted and have sonship conferred upon us [and be recognized as God’s sons].
Colossians 1:13
[The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.
Ephesians 1:4-6
Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] IN Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love.
5For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will [because it pleased Him and was His kind intent] 6[So that we might be] to the praise and the commendation of His glorious grace (favor and mercy), which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
Colossians 1:27
The mystery of which was hidden for ages and generations [from angels and men], but is now revealed to His holy people (the saints), 27To whom God was pleased to make known how great for the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ within and among you, the Hope of [realizing the] glory.
“To Be Sons Also Mean, We Are Heirs and Joint/Co Heirs with Jesus Christ.”
An Heir is one who has been appointed to receive gifts, an estate, royalties, or an inheritance from a predecessor. All that our Father has is ours IN Christ. We are chosen to be Sons no longer little children for the Father, A Holy and Pure Bride for His Son, A Temple, and A Prized Possession for the Holy Spirit to live in and inhabit.
We must no longer act like children tossed to and fro by the flesh, our thoughts or emotions. Rest assured, as mature sons, Christ lives His life in and through us to carry out the Father’s plan alone. We are forever anchored in His grace and life!
Understanding who we are In Christ… Sons and Heirs of our Father’s inheritance (Christ), and our purpose will help us to understand the Gift of Marriage and the wonders we share: The Gift of Companionship, The Gift of Friendship, The Gift of Partnership, The Gift of Stewardship, and The Gift of Love. Please join me as we will look at each one in our future blogs.
