“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation].” Matthew 11:28, Amplified
From our previous blog, Jesus Christ ended our Labor Days when we gave our lives to Him. We discovered Labor Day is not a “day” but an ongoing enjoyment of life and freedom in Christ. Jesus also revealed, “No More Labor Days” in the Kingdom of God. All our toiling, struggling, stressing, worrying, fearing, and carrying burdens ended in the finished work of Jesus Christ. In His glorious kingdom, where we dwell IN Christ, and He dwells IN us, we can experience perfect rest for our souls. The Lord carries the cares of our life, our grief, and all our burdens when we give them to Him.
Not only did our Labor Days end in Jesus Christ, but Jesus also said.
29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls.
30 For My yoke is easy [to bear], and My burden is light.”
The word yoke is the Greek word zugos, referring to a wooden yoke that joined two animals together, so they could combine strength to pull a load that would have been too much for one animal to pull alone.
When Jesus preached, He used metaphors and illustrations to relate to ordinary people. Before we gave our lives to Jesus Christ, we were born yoked to sin and the Law. They were our masters.
As born-again believers in Christ, we have been yoked to Christ. Jesus Christ is Love and Grace!
Matthew 11, verse 29, Jesus says, “Take My Yoke,” but He also said, “And Learn from Me.” Some translations of the Bible say, “Learn Me.” When we are yoked to Jesus Christ, we get to discover the very nature and character of our Lord. He describes Himself as “gentle, humble, and meek.” Jesus handles us with tender loving care. In Him, we will always find rest for our souls when we turn to Him because He carries the loads of life for us when we allow Him to. Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, lives within us, and we live in Him 24 hours a day!
There are no more Labor Days in the Kingdom of God. So turn your gaze inwardly to Jesus Christ. For in Him we live, move, and have our being resting in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. How wonderful is that!
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me, and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me, and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 The Message Bible
Here is an amazing sermon from one of my favorite teachers in the Body of Christ, Malcolm Smith. The message is called “Rest.”
