But the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water <em>(satisfying his thirst for God),<\/em> welling up <em>(continually flowing, bubbling within him)<\/em> to eternal life.\u201d<strong> John 4:14 Amplified<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Recently, I was reflecting on my journey with my Lord, and a story in the Bible came to mind; the story of the Samaritan woman in John chapter 4. She did not have a name, but her story applies to all of us searching for <em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">love and significance<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Here are a few highlights of her story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hispreciousgift.com\/wordpress\/?attachment_id=5797\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5797\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5797\" src=\"https:\/\/hispreciousgift.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/woman-at-the-well-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hispreciousgift.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/woman-at-the-well-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hispreciousgift.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/woman-at-the-well-2-300x242.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hispreciousgift.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/woman-at-the-well-2-335x270.jpg 335w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Outcast<\/strong> &#8211; Women usually went to get water from the well in the cool of the day. The Samaritan woman always went in the hottest part of the day when no one was around.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Grief Stricken<\/strong> \u2013 She had been married five times, and her five husbands died. In her culture, it was against the law to marry a divorced woman. Women had no rights, so they needed someone to take care of them to survive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rejected <\/strong>&#8211; Instead of marrying for the sixth time, the woman lived with a man in sin.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Empty Cistern\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; She was discontented after marrying so many times. Her actions revealed the emptiness and longing of her heart.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dejected Race <\/strong>&#8211; The Samaritans were outcasts in Biblical times; the Jews despised them more than the Gentiles. The groups hated each other and always avoided each other\u2019s territories.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Samaritan Women<\/strong> &#8211; They were considered to be unclean and repulsed by the Jews. Their lives were filled with ridicule, depression, and shame.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Jesus Came Into Her World <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It took her by surprise when Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well during the hottest part of the day. He was a Jew talking to her, and He knew everything about her but never condemned her. She experienced love, acceptance, and grace like she never had before. She was so excited that she dropped her cistern or water pot to tell everyone in the city, <em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cCome see a man who knows all about me. Surely, He is the Messiah of God.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>I know the Samaritan woman personally. I did not marry five times, but like her, the cup of my soul was empty. Even as a follower of Christ, I went from thing to thing, trying to find fulfillment for my soul.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Discontented Soul<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Have you ever asked the Lord, is my soul contented in You? Jesus told the Samaritan woman, \u201cWhen you drink from My life, you will <u>never <\/u>thirst again!\u201d I remember what it felt like to be discontented. I was always searching for the next best thing. I went from:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Service to service, midweek, Sunday evenings<\/li>\n<li>Revival to revival<\/li>\n<li>Book to book<\/li>\n<li>Conference to conference<\/li>\n<li>Retreat to retreat<\/li>\n<li>Group to group<\/li>\n<li>Ministry to ministry<\/li>\n<li>Choir to choir<\/li>\n<li>Relationship to relationship<\/li>\n<li>Bible reading, prayer, fasting, memorizing scriptures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The list went on and on, and I never found fulfillment or rest for my weary soul. All my soul wanted and needed lived <em>inside me<\/em>. He knows us and understands everything about us, and guess what?
