The Intimate Shepherd Who Knows Us<\/strong>

John Piper of Desiringgod.com says, <\/strong>“Jesus knows<\/strong> those who are His. What is this knowledge? John 10:3 is a close parallel to John 10:27. It says, \u201cThe sheep hear His voice, and He calls His own sheep by name<\/strong> and leads them out.\u201d So, when Jesus says, \u201cI know<\/strong> them,\u201d this means at least that He knows<\/strong> them by name; that is, He knows<\/strong> them individually and intimately. They are not anonymous, lost in the flock.<\/em>

John 10:14-15 provide another insight: \u201cI am the good shepherd. I know<\/strong> My own and My own know<\/strong> me, just as the Father knows<\/strong> Me and I know<\/strong> the Father.\u201d There is a real similarity (direct connection and union)<\/strong> between the way Jesus knows<\/strong> His Heavenly Father and the way He knows <\/strong>His sheep. Jesus sees Himself in the Father and He sees Himself in His disciples. <\/em>

The apostle Paul puts it like this: \u201cGod\u2019s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: \u2018The Lord knows <\/strong>those who are His\u2019 (2 Timothy 2:19). It is hard to overemphasize what a tremendous privilege it is to be known <\/strong>personally, intimately, lovingly by the Son of God. It is a precious gift to all His sheep, and it contains within it profound, personal fellowship and affection, and the promise of eternal life.”<\/em>

King David said it this way in Psalm 139:2 -8<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

O LORD, You have searched me and known <\/strong>me.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You know<\/strong> when I sit and when I rise;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You understand my thoughts from afar.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You search out my path and my lying down;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are aware of all my ways.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even before a word is on my tongue,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You know <\/strong>all about it, O LORD.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You hem me in behind and before;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You have laid Your hand upon me.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.<\/em>

Where can I go to escape Your Spirit? Where can I flee\nfrom Your presence?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I ascend to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there.<\/em>

No matter where we hide or where we go, He knows just where we are every moment of the day, why? He lives within us!<\/strong>

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surely, Goodness and Mercy <\/strong>pursue us every day of our lives to bring us to Him! There is no way over Him or around Him! We are His sheep\u2026 the sheep of His pasture!<\/p>\n\n\n\n


He calls to us today to turn to Him, the one who loves us forever!<\/strong><\/p>\n
