JESUS CHRIST OUR ROCK OF AGES

JESUS CHRIST OUR ROCK OF AGES

Many of us are walking through some challenging times right now. We are facing issues we never imagined we would be dealing with. Life throws us a curveball and some of us have never had an underhand pitch.

So, how do we handle life when we see the curve balls keep coming our way? I can tell you what I do, I DUCK then REST. I turn my focus to the Awesome Lord who lives within me, and I say to Him, “Thank You, Lord, my Life is in Your hands; I give this circumstance to You. You will take me through whatever we must face together. Thy will be done.”

I know it sounds so simple, right? But, when you have walked with the Lord over the years, you discover Him to be everything, He promised He would be. You learn to trust Him and rest in His faithfulness. Right this moment, I am going through changes in my body. They may be temporary, and they may not, only Jesus knows. Also, the Lord is preparing me for other transitions in my life I know I will soon face but guess what? He has me and He has you. One morning I was spending time with my Lord, this was the scripture of the day, found on Biblegateway.com, Isaiah 26:4 in the Amplified Bible.

“Trust [confidently] in the Lord forever [He is your fortress, your shield, your banner],
For the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].”

I love the old hymn I song as a child, “Rock of Ages Cleft for Me.” I looked that phrase up in the Bible but couldn’t find it. I did, however, find the origin of the phrase, “Rock of Ages.” The phrase depicts one of God’s awesome characteristics. The Godhead who lives on the throne of our hearts is described as:

  • Strong
  • Protective
  • Steadfast
  • Consistent
  • Not easily moved or shaken
  • A refuge for those in need

Here are four passages of scriptures taken from the Amplified Bible describing other characteristics of our “Rock of Ages.”

Deuteronomy 32:4The Rock! His work is Perfect, for all His ways are just. A God of Faithfulness without iniquity (injustice), Just and Upright is He.

2 Samuel 22:1-7 – David spoke the words of this song to the Lord when the Lord rescued him from the hands of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: “The Lord is my Rock and my Fortress [on the mountain] and my Rescuer.

3 My God, my Rock, in whom I take refuge; my Shield and the horn of my Salvation, my Stronghold and my Refuge, my Savior—You save me from violence.

4 I call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.

For the waves of death encompassed me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed and terrified me.

6 The cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me.

7 In my distress I called upon the Lord; I cried out to my God, and from His temple [in the heavens] He heard my voice; my cry for help came into His ears.

Psalms 61:2 – From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is overwhelmed and weak; lead me to the Rock that is higher than I [a rock that is too high to reach without Your help].

In the Old Testament, God’s people testified, that the God of Heaven was their only source of strength, hope, refuge, and protection. In the New Testament, we discover that the Godhead living within in us, as being our only source of strength, hope, refuge, and protection.

I Corinthians 10:4 – For I do not want you to be unaware, believers, that our fathers were all under the cloud [in which God’s presence went before them] and they all passed [miraculously and safely] through the [Red] Sea; And all [of them] were baptized into Moses [into his safekeeping as their leader] in the cloud and in the sea; and all [of them] ate the same spiritual food; and all [of them] drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the Rock was Christ.

So, when our souls are overwhelmed by the curveballs of life transitions and challenges, and our feelings and emotions are lured by distractions and pain, just remember: Turn to our Lord inside us and REST in His promises to us… HE IS OUR ROCK AND WE ARE INSEPARABLE!

Here is an intimate scripture was given to me by my Papa on 9/11/2021, I will hold to His words until I go home:

Even to your old age, I am He, and even to your Advanced old age, I will carry you!

I have made you, and I will carry you.

Be assured I will carry you and I will save you.” Isaiah 46:4

Enjoy Christ, Enjoy Life!
