BLESSED ARE THEY THAT MOURN

BLESSED ARE THEY THAT MOURN

There is great mourning going on around the world, in our country, communities, and my life. It is so difficult when words nor promises can comfort us. What do we do? I spoke with my youngest sister, Tracy, the other day. She told me how she and her husband talked with their 11-year-old and 6-year-old sons who were concerned about COVID-19 deaths and wondered why police officers wanted to kill Black people. She told me they watched two CNN broadcasts produced by Sesame Street that addressed the issues of COVID-19 and Racism issues to help them understand the virus killing so many people and the hatred that has existed in our country toward people of color since the beginning. Children are witnessing death like never before! My sister said, when her boys weren’t around, all she could do was cry and cry some more over the pain all around her. She said watching the pain on her boys’ faces and the pictures on the television were overwhelming. My sister loves Jesus and He was her only consolation because her big sister’s words couldn’t console her.

As my husband and I have been grieving, praying, and interceding for our world, country, communities, and the Body of Christ, we have felt the helplessness so many people feel right now amid COVID-19 and the powers of the enemy to harm us. This morning as I awakened and turned my heart to my Lord, I prayed, “Lord, the things going on in our world is way too much for this little soul to handle, but never too much for you!”

Jesus replied, “I know My Love, but BLESSED ARE THOSE THAT MOURN, THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED!” Matthew 5:7

I found great comfort in the words of my Lord and we also can find comfort through the words of our brother, David, as he shared his heart in the Psalms.

  • I am weary with my groaning; every night I soak my bed with tears, I drench my couch with my weeping. Psalm 6:6 (Amplified)

  • Depart from me, all you who do evil, For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. Psalm 6:8 (Amplified)

  • For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for a night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5 (Amplified)

  • He who goes back and forth weeping, carrying his bag of seed [for planting], will indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. Psalm 126:6

There is a time to rejoice with those who rejoice, however, this is a time when we mourn with those who mourn. And as we pray, we know the fervent prayers of the righteous avail much and will, in the end, PREVAIL!
